Google has recently introduced an array of new features to Google Lens for Chrome on desktop, providing users with enhanced functionality and convenience. These updates empower users to seamlessly interact with images, enabling tasks such as translation and text extraction directly from images.
Introduction of New Features
The latest update to Google Lens brings three new buttons positioned at the bottom of images: search, translate, and text. The default tool, search, offers users the ability to conduct image-based searches. Meanwhile, the text tool facilitates the selection and copying of text from images, with additional functionalities including translation, search, and speech synthesis. Users can also opt for the “select all” option for comprehensive text extraction.
Enhanced Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
This update includes improved optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities, delivering faster and more efficient text recognition directly within the browser. With macOS integration, users can seamlessly access image text recognition, further streamlining the process of extracting and interacting with textual content.
Translate Tool Integration
The translate tool functionality closely mirrors its mobile counterpart, automatically detecting the language of the identified text while allowing users to customize their preferred translation language. For a comprehensive translation experience, users can access identified text directly through translate.google.com.
Find Image Source
A noteworthy addition is the “find image source” feature, enabling users to locate the source of images by uploading them to Google Images. This functionality enhances image attribution and assists users in identifying the origin of images across the web.
Availability and Rollout
While the exact timeline for the rollout of these features remains undisclosed, they are currently accessible to users on Windows, Chrome (version 100) for Mac, and Chrome OS devices. Google continues to iterate and refine its offerings, striving to provide users with a seamless and intuitive browsing experience across various platforms.
As these new capabilities become more widely available, users can anticipate enhanced productivity and efficiency when interacting with images on Chrome desktop, thanks to the integration of Google Lens features.
