BGMI Players' Opportunity: Competing in the Asian Games 2022

Krafton, the South Korean video game company behind Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), made a significant announcement on Tuesday. Indian players will have the chance to qualify for the official esports program of the Asian Games 2022 through BGMI.

The inclusion of BGMI in the esports lineup underscores Krafton’s dedication to fostering the global esports ecosystem, particularly in India. The company has made substantial investments in the Indian gaming, esports, and IT entertainment sectors. This year alone, Krafton invested a total of $70 million in the Indian IT industry, including acquisitions such as Nodwin Gaming, Loco, and Pratilipi.

The Asian Games, held every four years, bring together top athletes from across Asia to compete in various sports. Recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the second-largest multi-sport event globally, the Asian Games will feature esports as an official and medal-awarding event for the second time in its history, following its inclusion as a demonstration sport in 2018.

BGMI Series 2021 and Beyond

Krafton’s announcement comes on the heels of the revelation of the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021. This tournament marks Krafton’s foray into hosting esports events following the overwhelming response to the official launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India on July 2nd.

With BGMI players now having the opportunity to compete on the prestigious stage of the Asian Games 2022, the Indian esports scene is poised for further growth and recognition.
