PIXELAND is not just your ordinary public space—it’s a vibrant fusion of various outdoor amenities thoughtfully crafted into a single dynamic environment. Developed by 100architects, this innovative project draws inspiration from the digital world of pixels to create a multifunctional space that caters to people of all ages.
Embracing the Pixel Concept
In the digital realm, pixels are the building blocks of every image, each containing its unique color information. Similarly, PIXELAND adopts the concept of pixels to organize its spatial layout. By combining smaller functional “pixels,” the project transforms into a captivating and versatile public space.
Modular Design Approach
At the heart of PIXELAND lies the main pixel—a 5 x 5-meter perfect square capable of hosting group activities. As we move towards the periphery, smaller modular pixels of 2.5 x 2.5 meters and 1.25 x 1.25 meters are introduced to address pedestrian circulation and landscape integration.
A Plethora of Amenities
Surrounded by greenery for privacy and safety, PIXELAND features an array of amenities to enhance the visitor experience. From lounge areas and picnic spots to shaded seating structures and communal benches, every corner is designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. Additionally, playful elements like voxelated playgrounds add an element of joy for younger visitors.
Dynamic Topography
The checkered plaza of PIXELAND is not just flat ground—it’s a multi-level landscape that gradually rises towards the center. This artificial topography creates visual interest and serves as a fitting stage for the voxelated horse playground, strategically positioned at the plaza’s highest point.
PIXELAND redefines public space by seamlessly blending functionality with creativity. With its modular design, diverse amenities, and nod to digital aesthetics, this innovative project sets a new standard for urban recreation and community engagement.
