Snapdeal Expands Reach to 26,000 Pincodes in India

Snapdeal, India’s third-largest e-commerce platform, has significantly expanded its services by adding 3,500 new pincodes in 2019. This expansion brings the total coverage area to 26,000 pincodes, aligning with Snapdeal’s strategic focus on serving India’s smaller towns and rural areas, collectively known as Bharat, which harbor the potential for the next wave of internet users.

Driving Growth in Bharat

A spokesperson from Snapdeal highlighted that the network expansion is a natural progression of the company’s commitment to Bharat-focused e-commerce. This move underscores the significant market opportunity presented by value-focused e-commerce in India’s hinterlands. Snapdeal intends to further augment its reach by adding more areas to its network in 2020, tapping into the untapped potential of India’s smaller towns.

Impressive Performance During Diwali Sales

During this year’s Diwali sales, Snapdeal witnessed a remarkable 50% growth compared to the previous year. Notably, a staggering 90% of the orders originated from non-metro cities, demonstrating the platform’s growing popularity and adoption in tier 2 and tier 3 cities across India.

Emerging Markets in Various Regions

Snapdeal’s expansion has enabled it to cater to diverse markets across the country. Cities like Satara, Anand, Bharuch, and Pali in West India; Malerkotla, Roorkee, Jhansi, and Haridwar in North India; Hazaribagh, Raniganj, and Paradip in East India; Tezpur, Itanagar, and Majuli in the North-East; and Khammam, Hassan, Miryalaguda, and Bhimavaram in South India have witnessed a surge in online shopping activity.

Similar Trends Observed by Competitors

Snapdeal’s expansion aligns with similar trends observed by industry giants like Amazon and Flipkart, which have also experienced a surge in sales from smaller towns and cities. This underscores the growing importance of Bharat as a key growth driver for India’s e-commerce industry.

In summary, Snapdeal’s concerted efforts to expand its reach to underserved regions underscore its commitment to democratizing e-commerce access and tapping into the vast potential of India’s burgeoning digital economy. As the company continues to strengthen its presence in Bharat, it is well-positioned to capitalize on the untapped market opportunities and drive inclusive growth across the country.
